Why do older people have such bad views about teenagers nowadays ?

What is Wrong with us ?

I dont understand.

Why are we sooo BADWhy do older people have such bad views about teenagers nowadays ?
When we were younger we had respect for our elders, it wasn`t hammered into us , but taught by our parents who had respect for their elders. Unfortunatelty today many parents, not all of them, can`t be bothered to teach their offspring anything but me, me, me. I respect teenagers that have the decency to be civil to me, as I am to them. Why do older people have such bad views about teenagers nowadays ?
Because they are steriotyped as 'hoodie' jobs that stand around on street corners, drinking and smoking and harrassing people. it is true for some sure, but that is no reason to tarr all with the same brush.
I know, that's a stupid stereotype. Sure, some teenagers are ';bad'; but not all of us.
Even the old Greeks were upset over the teenagers - it´s nothing new, it´s seems to be a everlasting generation-thing. Don´t worry, you´ll find your self being upset over the teenagers when you are old....
Don't worry about it - people generalise and always have done! The generation who criticise today's teenagers were probably criticised themselves when they were teenagers - just ask your parents!

There is good and bad in all levels of society and it has nothing to do with the age that we live in - it's been that way since time began; nowadays, however, news is reported much more quickly than it was years ago and, unfortunately it's the bad stuff that hits the news, I'm quite sure that if reporters were to report on all the good things that teenagers do, there would be much, much more to report than the bad.

You watch - when you get to your parents age and have children of your own you'll say ';I remember when I was a youth - we didn't dare do what the teenagers of today get up to!'; . . . . and so it continues!
Blame the media. I live in a ';town centre'; in Zone 2, London and it is not teenagers that I see fighting, puking and sexually assaulting one another and exposing their breasts and bottoms in the streets on a Friday and Saturday night. In my Borough, all youth crime is committed by 3 per cent of the youth population. Smile - you are not all so bad.
It is because we were brought up in a generation in which we behaved ourselves and respected older people. Our upbringing was stricter at home as well as in school. Up to school leaving age we were in bed at 9pm every night except Saturday when it was 9.30pm.We were taught the value of money. If we wanted something like a bike, we had to get a job and save our money to buy it. We knew what it was to go without. During the WW2 we hardly had a Xmas because of rationing and shortages. Our clothes came from second hand shops because we had no clothing coupons for new clothes. No cereals for breakfast, we had bread and milk.. We went to church on Sundays, and were caned in School if we misbehaved. Teenagers today will never know what it was like to experience this. They have everything and steal it if they want something and can't have it. WE never argued with our parents and did our share of the household chores. before we could go and play with our friends. Teenagers today expect too much from life without earning it.
It works like this. The younger generation think the older generation haven't done anything or seen anything and don't understand what it's like to grow up.

The older generation think the younger generation are worse than they were and are therefore idiots.
as wes said look at the way you behave , i we were young and had a fight we fought with our fist's not knives's , bottles , club's etc , we took drink but we enjoyed our selve's did not go and beat some old person up
some teens are little more than barbarians, with no idea of manners or social graces, but it was always the same.
Its just some teens spoil it for us .. so older people think ALL teens are like that! . Its nt fair at all.
They grew up in a time that was much different than what we are facing today. They worked hard, were opinionated about different government/political issues, and thought independently. Our culture is much more relaxed on work ethics. Politically, we tend to follow whatever the major hollywood stars say. We also are less involved in charity work and church activities. However I think it is just a difference in time periods...If grew up then maybe we would feel the same way...Good question though...
I understand what you're trying to say. Certainly no one is the same. It's just... our generation is kind of f*cked, It seems to be more accepted that 14 year olds can have sex and get pregnant. But it's not fair when people generalize and say ALL teens are doing this and we are all messed. If you were a lot older you would probably generalize this too... it's just hard and confusing to understand why so many teens nowadays are having sex and doing sh*t at such a young age. I am 14 and I am quite ashamed of our generation...
The media portrays teens as bad, and many elderly people only have had negative experiences with teens.
its cause we are living it up
That’s not a “nowadays” issue; it’s an eternal one. Check back with yourself in how ever many years it takes you to reach your version of “old” and see how you feel about the issue then.
im 25 and i think the availability of drink and lack of places to go play a big part in the problem. Older people see large crowds sitting on walls on street corners as intimidatory purely because of the perceived threat due to media coverage re attacks, muggings, stabbings etc.

the worse thing tho is the lack of respect for property and people. Ive been out at night with my dog and the jeering you get is so wrong. as daft as this sounds, i remember when this kinda sh1t woulda had you grounded for a weekend!!

im not saying this is true for all young people, but the lax laws and blatent disregard by the parents of 'known' troublemakers just adds fuel to speculation that the youth of today are wasters

no offense to any parents or kids who make the effort to stay in control of their kids/lives
Why do you think it is? It's not all teenagers but some are just a nuisance. I pass by smashed bus shelters and telephone boxes, see lots of very young mothers with babies always on their mobile phones with a cigarette in their other hand and ignoring their children. I absolutely hate foul language which hear on a regular basis when I go shopping. They are just a few things that I hate that never used to happen in this country. I get really tired of hearing them say ';we haven't got anything to do';, neither did we have anything to do but we didn't go around vandalising things for our entertainment. Sorry but you did ask.
its not all teenagers just some n old people have a problem with every ting lol
look at yourselves. how can you not see it?
The stereotypes the older generations have on us is because some teenagers are how they fear. Vandals. Criminals. Dangerous whipper-snappers and belong behind bars. But that fear should not be imposed on the ones who'd not do such things
It's been the same thing, with each generation, hasn't it? Nothing has changed.
The problem is, as you have just said 'older people' they too do the same, they bunch all youngsters together, when in actual fact you are all individuals. Older people are also individuals and ahould not all be classed the same.

Personally i believe SOME older people can be equally as rude a SOME younger people! XX
Generally, its easier to blast another group of people when you are able to take a few steps back from them. Older people, the elderly or otherwise were there once. They've been there and done that. They are much older now and have a perspective the rest of us do not - age and experience. If they think we're bad it is only because they are using the biases and experiences they have picked up in their own lives. We are who we are, as are they. In the end it is all a matter of perspective.
because some of them are so stupid and give you all a bad name, there are decent teenagers but loads of stupid ones too.
cos your all little punks
maybe its b/c back in their day women were honest, and now they dress like freaking skanks...not all teenagers do, just some...then with all of the things they put on tv....its kindof weird now that i think of it, it was probably pretty cheap to buy a dress back then, but now it's like $25 for the top of a bikini....

we are exposed to so many things now, its kinda scary....
I don't think we're as bad as we're portrayed to be. Personally, we have to deal with the burdens and impact the previous generations have placed on us. Plus, when we mess up it's all over the news and the Internet so I think it seems like that b/c there's more exposure to young people and people in general doing the wrong thing...
it's the way of the world. Your turn will come. Even Socrates in Ancient Greece complained about teenagers!
