My council has now claimed that any teenagers that are on the streets after 9pm will be imprisoned ...?

please help , what can i do to stop this happening My council has now claimed that any teenagers that are on the streets after 9pm will be imprisoned ...?
I hope the council where I live adopts the same policy. My council has now claimed that any teenagers that are on the streets after 9pm will be imprisoned ...?
Councils only have the power to make bye laws, not criminal law, and you can't imprison someone for breaking a bye law. It is not a criminal offence. Then can introduce a curfew in certain areas, but you have to be able to enforce a curfew for it to be effective.

No one can be imprisoned until they are charged with a criminal offence and tried and sentenced in a Court of Law. You can be held in custody, but not imprisoned.
That is very sad.

The number of people here answering here, wholeheartedly in agreement with the council's viewpoint, is also sad.

Civil liberties are disappearing fast - that is very worrying...

Sanctioned abuse of minors is ignored! (But why is this happening? What is the motivation???)

Teenagers just need better understanding and facilities.

What can you do?

Speak up (when you know clearly what the answer is)

(read the suggested info).
Bring it on. What business does a teenager have being out on road after 9pm anyways? Don't their parents care where they are or what they are up to? When I was 14/15 I had to be in by 9pm and woe betide any of us getting in at 9.30 - 10pm. Not getting home on time meant that you didn't go out the next day - so we would realise 9pm meant 9pm not 9.35pm - no if, buts or maybe's!!!! Although admittedly we had a youth club to go to (and I'm only 35!!) What happened to all of them? We all had a great time there playing cards, pool, table tennis that sort of thing and we were more than happy to hang there. A place for soon-to-be adults to just chill and get together with friends!! Have some great memories!!! It must be boring as hell being a teenager these days!!!!
It is a way of controlling them but people of all ages can be troublesome.

I think we judge people for what they do and monitor them more.

They should put CCTV cameras everywhere to control people.
They cannot do that. Teenagers being on the street is not against the law and no curfew is in place. Any council trying to do this would be acting intra vires
It's a great idea, but a Council can't imprison anybody only the Courts can do that. The curfew in Redruth, Cornwall is working wonderfully and should be introduced everywhere
Good, about time! Kids need a major kick up the butt. If you're a well behaved kid then what would you be doing out after 9 anyway. Kids have had it way too easy for too long!!
No it didn't. What a load of bullsh*t. A council has no powers to imprison anybody. A curfew is NOT imprisonment.

Now go away and stop lying.
It's outrageous. Anyone over 8 and under 20 who is seen in public between the hours of 13.00 and 24.00 should be exterminated!
Why would you want to stop it happening?, If they're causing that much trouble they deserve to be locked up.
You can stamp your feet and cry a little. That's about it.
Thats such a good idea.

If they catch them for a second time they should liquidise them.
Imprisoned? that seems a bit lenient.
They sometimes do that in China.
I wish they would do that around here, I'm sick of chavs hanging on street corners making their row.
I recommend not being on the streets after 9 PM.
Just another case of some making it bad for all.

Best news I've heard all week! and lock their irresponsible parents up with them! Arr peace...
GOOD
shame!!!!! try cutting your throat in protest
What a great idea.

Where do you live....I wanna move there.
ow god that's just stupid and i really don't know what you can do
