TO PARENTS,EDUCATORS AND TEENAGERS: What do you think about sex education AND WHO SHOULD TEACH IT?

I'm very pro-sex education, and I think trained sex educators should be teaching it. In addition, parents should be teaching about sex, and teachers should be accessible for asking questions (I'm a big fan of every classroom having a box where kids can put in anonymous questions of whatever nature that will be answered aloud by the teacher in a simple, direct matter). But as for who gives the bulk of sex education, it shouldn't be laypeople, but rather those who have been specifically trained to deal with teaching rambunctious, embarrassed kids about the topic of sex, and who have medical backgrounds and degrees in sexology, so they know what they're talking about.

If I really had things my way, national sex education curricula would be written by a team of Carol Queen, Susie Bright, Betty Dodson, and Camille Paglia, among others. Sex educators would be licensed by The Center for Sex and Culture (http://www.centerforsexandculture.com/ ) and need to have degrees in sexology. There would be field trips to the store Good Vibrations in San Francisco (for older kids, of course), and basically, sex would be approached positively and comprehensively- you tell kids anything they'll need to know to do well in life later in terms of not only sex, but also romance, relationships, and communication within relationships.

That's my opinion, at least.

im a teenager. i personally think parents should be teaching it. but that would be in one of those should-be-but-doesnt-happen types of situations. the teachers i had were very honest and got the main points across. so we got the basic idea. which was good, i dont think all parents know how to explain straight facts like teachers can. %26amp; it got us used to talking about it openly. but i really strongly feel that parents should at the very least be there to polish up and answer any questions that we would have. they shouldnt be completely out of the loop like many parents are.TO PARENTS,EDUCATORS AND TEENAGERS: What do you think about sex education AND WHO SHOULD TEACH IT?
a nurse or doctor ... im a student and i find it weird when a teacher know start to talk bout sex ...
I'm a parent and a teacher. I taught my own 3 kids before they were 5yrs old. I also got roped into teaching a 6th grade ';health'; class. I'm fine with it. giggly girls and snickering boys in separate classes. There are some really good curriculum out there.

Most parents I know do a lousy job teaching and most teachers hate teaching sex ed/health etc so its no wonder we have masses of misinformed youth.
