That is a good question, I wonder about the same thing my self, I think that it is because there are a lot of stupid people out there with poor educations, and even worse vocabularies...like Bear1977

started in the 80's with the whole ';valley girl'; thing.

It started in Southern California's San Fernando Valley. Or As I like to Call it. HELL. young rich white girls known as ';Valley Girls'; used it in this context around the late seventies early eighties. It worked it's way south into Los Angeles making its way into local converstion then ultimately into hollywood scripts and screenplays, television, what have you. Witch in turn influenced the rest of the country via the airwaves. ';It's kinda like you know, whatever.';
For me, it's just a habit when I can't think of what I want to say fast enough. A filler word I guess. It's not that I'm dumb, or don't know the answer to anything. I'm just a bad with conversations and stumble over words easily.

I think when they run out of words to say
I don't know but it's like very anoying!
Because they are compensating for their lack of an education and fat asses
I think they say 'like' when they are hesitant to what to say.
It's a word with a point of view.They use the word like to show or act out what was said instead of just telling what was said.
They haven't taken hold of the English language yet. They should probably pay more attention in school, but ''that ain't gonna happen!''
I have NO idea where that came from. It is the most ridiculous thing i've ever heard. ';like'; this and ';like'; that.
Half of this is because ';like'; has halfway replaced ';say';. So instead of ';She said 'I don't get it.','; people say ';She was like 'I don't get it.';
It like came from those wonderful valley girls in like California!
